Vascular & Vein Health Review: The Evaluation Your Arteries Have Been Waiting For

Sep 28
4 min read

Most people go through their entire lives without ever having their veins, arteries, or lymphatic system directly evaluated. Not because it isn't important — but because standard checkups simply don't include it.

A standard annual physical will measure your blood pressure. It may order a cholesterol panel. It will not look at whether your vessel walls have thickened, whether blood is pooling in the veins of your legs, whether your carotid arteries carry early signs of plaque, or whether your lymphatic circulation is compromised. These are invisible findings — until they produce symptoms. And by the time vascular disease produces symptoms, it has typically been building for years.

The Vascular & Vein Health Review is EuroMed's dedicated program for exactly this gap.

What Vascular Health Actually Means

The vascular system is the body's transport network — arteries carrying oxygenated blood outward from the heart, veins returning it, and the lymphatic system draining excess fluid and supporting immune function. When any of these systems is compromised, the effects ripple across the body.

Arterial disease — including atherosclerosis, arterial stiffness, and plaque accumulation — is the leading cause of heart attack and stroke globally. It develops over decades, is silent in its early stages, and is highly detectable through imaging before any event occurs.

Venous disease — including chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis risk, and varicose vein formation — affects up to 40% of adults and is consistently underdiagnosed. It presents as leg heaviness, swelling, and fatigue long before it becomes medically obvious.

Carotid artery disease — narrowing or plaque in the neck vessels supplying the brain — is one of the most significant and preventable precursors to ischemic stroke. It is detectable by ultrasound, requires no invasive procedure, and is rarely screened for in routine care.

Lymphatic dysfunction — impaired drainage that leads to chronic inflammation, swelling, and immune compromise — is almost never evaluated in standard medicine despite its systemic consequences.

A complete vascular evaluation addresses all of these. A standard annual physical addresses none of them.

What the Program Includes

Laboratory — The Biochemical Foundation

Before imaging, we establish the full biochemical picture of vascular and metabolic health:

Vascular & Venous Lab Panel — coagulation studies (PT, INR, aPTT), D-dimer, homocysteine, ApoB, lipids, and inflammatory markers including hs-CRP and fibrinogen. These markers reveal clotting tendency, endothelial damage, and systemic inflammation — the biochemical environment in which vascular disease develops.

Biochemistry SMAC-30 — a comprehensive 30-marker metabolic panel covering liver, kidney, glucose regulation, electrolytes, and lipid metabolism. Essential context for understanding vascular risk.

Insulin Resistance Panel — fasting insulin, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, and fasting glucose. Insulin resistance is an independent driver of arterial damage and is missed by standard glucose testing alone.

Clinical Blood Analysis — complete blood count with differential, providing the baseline cellular health picture that informs all other findings.

Imaging — Seeing What Blood Tests Cannot

Doppler Ultrasound — Lower Extremities covers both the venous and arterial systems of the legs: deep and superficial veins for insufficiency and DVT risk, and arteries for flow velocity, calcification, and stenosis. This is the definitive non-invasive evaluation for leg vascular health.

Doppler Ultrasound — Upper Extremities evaluates the arterial and venous health of the arms and subclavian vessels — an area routinely overlooked in vascular screening despite its clinical significance, particularly for patients with cardiovascular risk factors or asymmetric blood pressure readings.

Carotid Doppler directly images the carotid arteries in the neck — measuring intima-media thickness, identifying plaque, assessing stenosis, and evaluating blood flow to the brain. This study is one of the most powerful tools in preventive cardiovascular medicine and one of the least utilized in routine care.

Consultation

Angiology Consultation with a board-certified specialist and expert in angiology — interpreting all imaging and laboratory findings together, identifying patterns across systems, and producing a coordinated clinical assessment with specific recommendations.

The + Cardiac Block Option

For patients who want a complete cardiovascular picture — arterial, venous, cardiac, and coronary — the Vascular & Vein Health Review can be combined with our cardiac evaluation block:

- Echocardiography — cardiac structure, valve function, and pumping efficiency

- AngioTAC Coronaria · CCTA + FFR-CT — coronary CT angiography with hemodynamic analysis, without invasive catheterization (Coronary CT Angiography — the only study that directly images the coronary arteries with submillimeter precision)

- Cardiology Consultation — post-results specialist interpretation

- GP / Internist Consultation — integrated review of all results with a coordinated action plan across both vascular and cardiac findings

Together, this combined evaluation constitutes one of the most comprehensive cardiovascular preventive assessments available — conducted in a single coordinated visit, interpreted by board-certified specialists and experts in their fields.

Who This Program Is For

The Vascular & Vein Health Review is appropriate for any adult who:

- Has never had a dedicated vascular evaluation

- Has a family history of cardiovascular disease, stroke, or deep vein thrombosis

- Experiences leg heaviness, swelling, cramping, or fatigue

- Has metabolic risk factors — elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, or insulin resistance

- Is over 40 and has not had carotid imaging

- Is planning surgery and wants a complete vascular baseline

- Has been told their standard bloodwork is "normal" but still feels something is off

Vascular disease does not wait for symptoms to announce itself. The evaluation does not require one either.
